A bushing is usually a threaded pipe fitting that is used to make the transition between two pipes or fittings of difference sizes. Bushings can also be of the socket weld variety where the weld is a fillet weld rather than a butt weld. In the threaded version, the larger thread is a male thread and the smaller is a female thread.
